You already know we’re in for a great time and fantastic food after we get there. You may not know that if you are getting there via the slab, you will past close to the 13th largest brewery in the US, and home to one of my favorite beers. Abita Brewery is located a few miles east of Covington in Abita Springs. You can’t buy beer at the brewery but at 2pm they give it away! They make you watch a presentation on the History of Abita Beer and how they made the dozen or so different beers, then drag you through the brewery, but hey, it’s free beer!
If the slab is not your thing and you are coming in by way of Woodville MS. don’t miss the opportunity stop for some cracklings. Gail and Paul think the best ones are at Faties. After all the name pretty much says it all. But if they are closed or sold out as they often are, you might try Earl’s. That would be, Earl’s Tire Service and Cracklings shop. You may also want to try Earl's specialty - raccoon - while supplies last. Umm - Cracklings with a hint of galvanized rubber fried in raccoon fat. How can you resist!
