  • Paint Rock Valley Lodge and Resort meeting

Two new items of interest for those attending this month's meeting at Paint Rock Valley Lodge. First, they have a swimming pool so pack a swim suit and beach towel. Second, they don't take plastic so bring cash or check.

Also, you might want to pack a light jacket! I know it hot, but change is on it way to North Alabama. The high for Friday is forecast to be in the mid 80's and low's in the upper 60's. Saturday is low 80's and low 60's. This forecast is for the flat land. You can expect 3-5 degrees lower in the mountains. Upper 50's Sunday morning sound good to me!

    Ride safe, have fun

oh man what a great meeting we had this weekend! The place was every bit as unique and quirky as we expected. Great hosts and a great turnout made for a very fun weekend. Add in the great rides that Vernon had scoped out (Love that County Road 8!) and it was awesome. On Saturday morning the forecast of 100% rain had us worried but several of us made a trek up to the railroad museum in Cowan, TN and back down to New Market BBQ for a great lunch. We tried to use any road that was "little" and as a result we toured some great back road TN farmlands and mountain roads! I snapped a few photos and here are some of my favorites!

Thanks to Vernon & Kay for finding this gem and hosting us this weekend Great job!

It truly is a great meeting place so I hope it gets on the schedule for next year. I was somewhat disappointed that we were not there for the rides but we had a great time with our kids and grand kids visiting for the week. I still want someone to ride with me on the trail (CR 176) from Estillfork to Huntland some day. I did it by myself a couple years ago (May of 2011) and I didn't think it was a bad idea since it was listed as a county road but there was a couple times that I got off track and wondered if I was going to get out of there or be discovered the next winter by some deer hunters. As you know there is no cell service up there and even though I had rigged my GPS up on the KLX it didn't want me to go where I programmed. So it was a little challenging. Thanks to Vernon and Kay for being great hosts.

Here are some pictures I took that day on CR 176.

I recall you telling this story Jim and in fact related it to David Haynes who knows the area well. Just for kicks Mari and I rode up to the end of that road to where it crosses the creek (with no intention of continuing by the way) and I must say it looked interesting indeed. There are so many great little roads in that area it will be fun to go back again with the smaller bike and do some exploring!

Yes when you roll up to the creek crossing it makes you wonder what to expect. But let me know when you are ready, I would love to do it again. By the way that is CR 175 not 176 if anyone is paying attention I made a mistake in the post.

Had a great time in Paint Rock. Thanks to Vern and all others involved in a fun but soggy meeting. A very interesting place. Below is a photo of the club meeting in the theater.

We watched torrential rain from the front porch. It was so overwhelming even the wildlife was looking for a way out. This is where "Erik's Ark" came into play. The little guy said go for higher ground!
