The BMW Motorcycle Owners of Alabama are pleased to announce this upcoming event that will be held at the historic Old York Farms in Oakman which is near Jasper, AL. This unique event is designed for both on road and off road enthusiasts. Old York Farms has a storied history. The site features more than 20 old buildings including a steakhouse, gift shop and western store. Described by historians as being 'as authentic as you can get', Old York shines with the ghost of the Confederacy and the old West. Nestled in the foothills of south Walker County, York was the original site of the town's first Post Office where in 1862, Confederate troops were sworn in and was located in the rustic white house in the center of the heritage park. For nearly a century and a half, the Corry's have resided on the acreage in and around Old York. In its day, York was a mecca for coal mining activities. Five saloons sprang up with the addition of the railroad – and one such watering hole - the Chamborden Saloon, is recreated, complete with the original bar, liquor cabinets and mirror.
Begin arriving anytime on Friday May 19 and pitch your tent for the weekend. Join us in the Chamborden Saloon at 5:30 to kick off the festivities. At 6:30 we will gather at the Bull Pen Steakhouse where our group will be seated together in a private room. Dinner is on your own and will be ordered off their regular menu. After dinner we’ll return to the saloon for an evening social and ride planning meeting for the Saturday rides.
Saturday will be ride day! We will have an on road ride that will take you through some of the best roads in northwest AL. And there is a planned lunch stop at Nesmith’s Hamburgers in downtown Moulton (listed on the 100 places in AL to eat before you die) and a favorite stop for club members for years. The ride will return back to Old York by late afternoon.
There will be an off road ride that will include some awesome dirt and forest service type roads that will be BIG bike friendly. This ride will wind its way through the woods and includes among other highlights a stop at the grave of Rube Burroughs the infamous train robber in the late 1800’s. There will be a lunch stop included and this ride will return to Old York by mid to late afternoon as well.
Saturday night we will return to the Bull Pen Steakhouse for dinner and afterward gather in the saloon once again. Details are still be worked out but we may even be entertained with a live jam type session with local musicians!
Please note Old York Farms is located in Walker County which is dry. Alcohol is permitted on Old York property but there are no sales there or even close by. Therefore please be aware that if you prefer an adult beverage, you must bring these along with you. We will have some limited cooler space available but it will be best if you can care for your own provisions. And I know with the wealth of experience in this group that should not be an issue!
This event is an open club event and will be perfect for one up, two up or even non riders. If you require lodging other than tents or RV’s there are several hotels located in Jasper which is approximately 15 miles away.
This event has been in the planning for almost a year and promises to be a lot of fun. If you are interested in attending, please respond by email to president@bmwmoal.org .
