Terese, The camping is across the street from the hotel on hotel property. There are bathrooms there also as well as the old train station that has the waiting room restored to period style. Quite interesting and nice.

            Hi Terese.

The Old Harbin Hotel is at McDaniel Avenue & 2nd Street in Nauvoo. Going SE on Alabama 5, turn on 4th street (there is a nice Nauvoo sign there) and go about 1/2 mile. Turn left on McDaniel Ave. and go a couple blocks. The Hotel is on the right at 2nd Street. Turn right on 2nd, and drive to the campground across the railroad tracks (about 150 yards).

A good way to get there from Huntsville is go through Moulton and take Hwy 33 south to Hwy 195 through Double Springs , then right on CR 25 to Hwy 5. Turn left and go to 4th street, then right to the town of Nauvoo.

If you are in Moulton around lunch time, be sure to check out Nesmith's for an unusual "deep fried" hamburger. They are really good. Don't miss seeing the grill and don't worry about the appearance of the place. In Double Springs , be sure to make a stop to see the Dual Destiny statue which is in the front of the courthouse. Read the plaque on its base. Notice the uniform is 1/2 Union and the other half is Confederate. Also notice the broken sword hilt in the soldier's right hand, with the blade under his left foot. There are two flags crossed behind him, one US the other is the Confederate battle flag. During the War of Northern Aggression , 1/2 of the folks in Winston County fought for the Union, the other 1/2 for the Confederacy. Winston County declared itself independent and became the Free State of Winston for a period of time.

Glad you are going to make the trip to Nauvoo. I look forward to seeing you and your new ride there.

                  Bob,

There will be a group from the Mobile/Pensecola area. Not sure of the plans as yet. Several of us have talked about leaving together from the Pilot Truck Stop in Satsuma exit 19 on I-65. Will probably discuss some tomorrow.

Where in Florida are you from. The Oasis Breakfast Club and the BMW Air Heads meet every Saturday morning at exit 53 on I-10 in Robertsdale. Its not far from Pensecola. 07:00-07:30 am is a good time to meet there. If the weather is good expect 20-30 folks every Saturday. Not sure about the attendence tomorrow. A Lot of folks in Daytona.

                      Weatherman is calling for snow!!!!!!!!!

It is time for everyone to start their good weather dance. Accuweather is predicting low 30's and high 50's with a little snow on Thursday. This far out I hope they are dead wrong. Positive vibes folks!

                        Dang,
I'm still trying to thaw out from being wet and cold most of today. Have to admit, Bob, Steve, Tom and myself had to say "Uncle" on our attempt to do the All-Around Alabama ride. After 6 hours and just shy of 300 miles of storm conditions, I had already gone through all of my clothes for both days. With the weather farther in the route was being forecaste for more of the same and worse tomorrow and myself unable to speak from a sore throat, I will admit to being a whimp that decided to try for better days.
Now Bob is discouraging me from what is being planned for a great weekend.
If this weather appears to be proving out, I vote we punt the Nauvoo meeting to June since we are trying to find a place to go for the June meeting.

Gary - You may have been the first to admit to it, but we all thinking about crying "Uncle" (or hoping that someone else would), especially during that 6th hour of torrential downpour.

                            4 fools ride

You know the best sport we met on the wet ride was the young lady at the service station in Rayburne. She just kept smiling as she was constantly mopping up behind us, and here Schuckman and I were pouring water out of our boots. I think the policeman in the store really wanted to arrest us on a charge of stupidity - he should have!

There's nothing wimpy about you two. Most folks would have headed home after the first 30 miles. The rain from Centre to Ranburn reminded me of monsoon season in Viet Nam, only a lot colder. Today was what you might call a character building day and we will be talking about it for years to come.

Can't change to June. That is the weekend that Gene has his big car show.

I looked at the forecast and it should be OK for the week-end of our Nauvoo meeting. If it is really cold Friday and Saturday nights, we can hangout in the Hotel's ball room. Gene has a lot of firewood for us so we can keep warm if it is a tad chilly. The forecast is for mostly sunny Friday and Saturday with highs in the mid 50s.
