  • Johnson City MOA Rally Kudo's!

For those that attended the Rally, I'm sure you'll agree with my comments. For those that missed the Rally, you missed "One Hell of a Great Party"!

    Congratutalions to Vance and Connie!
You both put on an outstading rally. Everything from the food, entertainment, use of the available factilites, airshow, fireworks, etc. was all first class! You raised the bar on how to do a MOA rally and make it special!

Also a great many of our club members did an outstanding job of working as committee chairs and volunteers! You made our club PROUD!

All of you who contributed to the MOA Club Challange...You can be proud of our participationin the challange. With your donations we gave $1,400 and earned second place in the challange! Needless to say, we plan to win next year!

Our club also won second place in the number of club memembers attending the rally. It's based on the percentage of members in attendance. I'm told we missed first by a hair!

You are right on Ron. After helping Phillip a little bit with his RV task, I am amazed at just how great the job is to put on an event like the MOA rally. Vance and Connie pulled off an almost impossible task. Everything we like about going to a BMW motorcycle rally was accomplished in spades. Even the local food vendors there were excellent. One of the food booths had smoked brisket that was so good, several of us returned for several meals until they sold every brisket available in the Johnson City area.

There were more good vendors there than I remember seeing before and the vintage bike show was the best also. The beer tent's had enough tables and chairs for everyone and the beer selection was excellent too. To my knowledge, there have never been more great motorcycling roads so close to the rally site. The local folks were very friendly and helpful too.

My all time favorite MOA rallies were Redmond and Reinbeck. Johnson City ranks equally well with the best of the best, and I am hard pressed to say which was the best.

There are also many good positive comments on the MOA fourm and very few complaints like I have seen in the past.

      More Cudos

I had a very good time. I was very proud of Vance, Connie, Mari, and all the others of our club that served without wavering. Good on all of you!

I heard nothing but praise from the citizens and merchants of Johnson City concerning our behavior, the lack of noise, and overall conduct. I do know from testimony from some of the merchants that we had quite an impact on their economy.

But more than anything else I am very grateful that with almost nine thousand attendees we did not have any serious accidents. Unfortunately, there was one motorcycle fatality but the local news was quick to point out that the victim was not a part of the rally.

Bob, I could tell that you and Larry enjoyed the brisket but I was very glad to see the two of you eating so healthy from the fruit/produce stand. It seems that everytime I saw you two that you were headed there.

I don't think Bob and crew were headed to the fruit stand for their health. I think they were looking at the eye candy, ug, that is the natural melons on the ladies selling the fruit.

Jamie and Outlaw, you are right. The ladies at the melon stand had some of the best fried apple pies that I had the pleasure ever to enjoy. We ate them for breakfast each morning. Our problem was that we ate the pies for dessert too and had to return for more. Larry was more health conscious than I. He also got fresh apples, about a bushel I think .

That was a really great rally. I went to several of the seminars and found them to be excellent. (I'm happy that I now know the difference between an amp, a volt, and a current.) The vendor quantity and quality were also bountiful. I found some things that I had been needing and some that I wanted as well. I thought everything was well run and even entertaining (Vance makes a great dunking clown).

The people in the town were so happy to have us there. The lady at my motel said she was expecting a lot of rowdiness and loud bikes so she was relieved and happy to have us. Same for the restaurants in town. I went to the early service at the Methodist church right by the rally on Sunday morning and they were also very warm and welcoming.

I met some really nice people and enjoyed seeing some of our group - most of whom were on duty working hard. Vance and Connie even ordered up fabulous weather for us as well. You guys did a great job!

The cantouples where great...I really like sweet cantouples... I only purchased a quarter cantouple at a time....of course I enjoyed my return visits to the fruit stand....to buy another quarter cantouple.

Lucky for us, they are our next door neighbor during the rally...yet the fried pies where great as well.....

They had it together in more ways than one....

Don, you are right. The cantaloupes were sweet and juicy. I liked the way they were cut so that they could be eaten easily with the provided plastic fork. We had to make a few extra trips to the fruit stand for those also.

                    Change of subject:

Congratulations for doing such a great job with the Volunteers. I believe that you set the bar pretty high and it will be difficult for the next person to accomplish what you did.

Thanks Bob, Had a great team for co-chairs as well, Barb and Mel said we processed just under 1400 volunteers slots at the rally, many volunteers did double or triple duty....with Registration taking 320 volunteers add another 200 hundred or so to the Beer Garden, the shifts and volunteers did add up fast. We processed several hundred before the rally started for various committees.... I would estimate that this rally needed 2000 volunteer slots that where filled before and during the rally....counting setup as well.

Got great response from the Camp Gears kids as well....

I want to thank Vance and Connie for the great support for our committee and to all the volunteers that made the rally happen.

To really put things into prespective, we created a small town of 10,000 folks complete with food, stores, streets, parks, entertainment, transportation system and housing, RV park and parking lots all within a few hours and then tore it back down again...

                      Thanks Volunteers!!!

Looks like someone thought the huge Rally banner from the stage would look good in their garage. See link.http://www.bmwmoa.org/rally09//our_missing_banner1
