  • Pandora's event Sat Jan. 23 2010

Here is a post I just received from Justin Prann and I am thinking about riding to Chattanoonga Saturday morinng for his event, weather permitting. If other Alabeemers would like to go, please let me know and I will work on a plan to meet. If Electa's business, Flip Side Grill, in Gadsden is open, that will be the place to meet for breakfast.

I replyed to Justin's email for more information, times etc.

Saturday January 23rd Pandora’s European Motorsports is pleased to announce Bill Conger and Ray Helms of the
BMW Performance Training Center will be at the Shop. Both Bill and Ray (formally trained at the BMW facility inIf we go, unfortunately it will be necessary to ride the slab up there for times sake.
Hechlingen, Germany) are not only excellent GS rider coaches but they are also always up for a good ride. The
excitement of a riding event and the opportunity to interact with a large group of enthusiasts is more than enough
reason to pack up their gear and make the trip from Greenville to Chattanooga for the weekend.
Bill and Ray will be participating in the CTF Event (special thanks to Rick Trimble for detailed route configurations on
both the Dirt and Street circuits).
Please stop by the shop and introduce yourself, we will have a BMW Performance Center booth set up at the shop
with literature, as well as running footage of Performance Center Rider Training. You’d be surprised how much you
can learn about riding just from talking to these professionals.

A short synopsis of class content offered by Bill and Ray at the BMW Performance Center:
    BMW Rider Training (Off-Road)
    Riding position
    Braking exercises
    Slalom
    Circles
    Figure Eights
    Sand
    Stopping on a hill
    Gravel
    Recovery from a hill
    Hill climb and descent
    Riding ruts, whoops and logs
    And More!!
    BMW Rider Training (On-Road)
    Riding position
    Braking exercises
    Slalom
    Cornering Styles
    Figure Eights
    Low-speed maneuvering

Thank you and I look forward to a great event this Saturday.

Here is the latest information from Justin at Pandoras:

Introducing Pandora’s January 2010 STREET vs DIRT Capture the Flag event.
This will be the first of many Pandora’s events designed to provide customers the opportunity to use their machines as they were designed by the manufacturers. All bike make and models are welcome.
Secondary purpose of this event is to dial in suspension of customer bikes (I will explain further below).
There will be two teams, ‘Street’ and ‘Dirt’. Both teams will depart from the parking lot in the same wave, we will all ride together to and up Suck Creek until our routes fork, at which time the Dirt team will split off into Prentice Cooper, and the Street team will continue on around the mountain to find their flag. This is not a race, but the winning team will be the one that makes it back to the shop with the flag first…. In the name of competition I have designed the routes to be near equal time-wise (2.5 hrs.) All team members must be in the parking lot before they are considered to have ‘returned’ with the flag. Each member of the winning team will be entered into a raffle for a free Scorpion helmet.
I will have a flag hidden on each route, the object is to locate and take possession of the flag, one rider from the team must ride with the flag displayed back to the shop… again all riders from each team must be in the shop parking lot in order to have fully ‘returned’.
The flags can only be located by GPS Coordinates, which I will provide the morning of the event. I know most of you have GPS Units; we will also have Pandora’s Demo bikes in each team that are equipped with such hardware.
As a complimentary feature we will be offering to set up suspension of customer bikes from
8-9:00am before we depart the parking lot. After the event Customers are urged to provide our Tech team with feedback so we can further adjust settings to your liking. The purpose of this is to help Customers not only improve their riding skills but also extract the most potential out of their machines.
Note this event is a fair weather event, if Saturday the 23rd is poor weather we will reschedule for Sunday the 24th…..if the weekend is a wash then we will push it to another weekend.
Event Itinerary (please arrive at the shop gassed up):
8:00-8:30am Event registration at Pandora’s European Motorsports
8:30-8:45am Route review, communication of GPS Coordinates for flags.
8:45-9:15am Wrap up suspension jobs, Saddle up, Departure
12pm Burgers and soda at the shop, raffle drawing for winning team, beleaguering of losing team

Registrations the morning of the event are welcome, though I am compiling a rider list. If you would like to participate please send a note to justin.prann@pandorasmotorsports.com containing the following info:
    Name
    Phone number
Make and model of bike you will be riding
Team you wish to ride for (Street or Dirt)

There is no entry fee for this event, however there is an optional $5 donation bucket to offset costs of hosting and burgers

Looks like the weather is going to a good day for our ride to Pandora's Motorsports. I plan to be at the Flipside Grill Saturday morning, 23 January around 8 am. We should arrive at Pandora's before noon eastern.

Flipside Grill is in Gadsden just past the mall on the left. Take I 59 Exit #182 on I 759 toward Gadsden (4 miles). Turn left on US 411 and ride approxametly .5 miles. You will see Flipside Grill on the left.

          Morning Martin.

We should get back home before dark. I depends on how long we want to stay at Pandora's and the return route we decide on (backroads or slab). I am for departing Pandora's when any one wants to head home and any route is good for me.

I estimate we will arrive at Pandora's around 11:30 am eastern, give or take 15 minutes.

For those Birmingham area folks wanting to go to Pandora's Saturday, lets meet at the Valleydale BP (I 65 Exit 247) ready to roll at 7 am. Our route will be I 65, I 459, I 59, I 759, US 411 N to Flip Side Grill at 8 am, then back to I 59 to Chattanooga and Pandora's.

It looks like it will be a good day for a ride, and and Long Tall Sallie is ready to roll.

            Hi Bob,
Mari and I are planning to go up Friday night. We want to ride in the event itself and as you know it leaves at 9:15 Eastern. We are thinking it would be a really long day for Mari to do it all in one day and ride the event too. So we look forward to seeing everyone there.

We would like to ride back with the group though. Getting home about dark sounds good. It looks like the weather window will close about that time anyway and Sunday looks rainy indeed.

            Lookin forward to it!

I'm envious and would really like to do the street/gs ride, but Kathy and Carolyn Shea have plans for Ron and I. We get to go to a play on Southside. Hope it isn't as bad as the one that caused me to cut Waterloo short.

Real glad that you and Mari are going and that you are riding back with us. Larry called and will meet us at the Flip Side.

Glad you are out and about after your scope.

The Birmingham/Gadsden/Columbia gang should be there around 11:30 eastern.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

                    We made it!!

I met Bob & Terry early this morning to motor up to Pandora's. We made a breakfast stop at Flip Side Grill in Gadsden where Larry joined us.

We made it to Pandora's just as the hamburgers and hot dogs were coming off the grill. I know, it's ride to eat and eat to ride.

Vance & Mari joined for the ride home.
