I may spend a few days kicking around Louisiana. One thought is to visit a couple of state parks, rent a cabin and do some hiking. Any recommendations on parks with good cabins and hiking? Any I should avoid?

Erik, there are quite a few state parks that have cabins but the hiking oportunities are lacking. The two most notable with cabins and hiking trails are Bogue Chitto SP in Washington Parish and Lake Fausse Pointe SP in Iberia Parish(this one down in Cajun land and in the Atchafalaya Basin system with some hiking and nature trails. Hope this helps.

A list of LA state parks with facilities and activities can be found at http://www.crt.state.la.us/parks/iFeeFacChart.htm. Though not a state park, San Miguel Park http://www.toledobendlakecountry.com...rish-louisiana has nice cabins. We have stayed in these cabins in years past, though it has been a while since we did.

Thanks for the feedback Gator and Tommy. I may drive down the Trace and go see Windsor Ruins. Is there any place you guys would recommend staying in/around Natchez for a night?Erik Bahl

Erik,
I have never stayed here but have always wanted to. http://www.natchezeola.com/ Looks like the rates are very reasonable too. I would be interested to know what you think if you try it. I know of several who have stayed there before and said it was a very cool place!Current Bikes

We've stayed @ the Eola some years ago. It is (was) a quaint boutique hotel. Some rooms were very small, others were quite large. We were by the outside last year, and it still looks quite nice.JGoertz

Erik, Natchez State Park has a nice campground and also has cabins and is on a really nice little lake. It's just a mile or so off of US 61 a few miles north of Natchez. Also has some hiking trails. It's a really beautiful park. We have camped there many times when we had our horses. Have a good trip and give us a call if you get near. You're welcome to stay at our house if you want. Have a happy Thanksgiving.Originally posted by beemererik View PostThanks for the feedback Gator and Tommy. I may drive down the Trace and go see Windsor Ruins. Erik, when in Natchez check out some of the good places to eat in the old downtown section near the river. Try "Fat Mama's Tamales" and the "Pig Out Barbeque" .Goooooood eatin'.

Erik, also in Natchez right before you cross the river, there is The Donut Shop. The donuts are to die for and the tamalies are pretty good too. I haven't tried Fat Mammas, but with a name like that, they have to be good! The lady that works there told me that one glazed donut had the equivalent calories of an entire loaf of bread!
