For "Red Mountain Motorsports of Birmingham's" only ride in February we will take a scenic route to visit the last three remaining historic covered bridges open to daily traffic in Alabama, all of which are within Blount County. Like the January ride to Mount Cheaha, this ride will be led by David Haynes, author of Motorcycling Alabama, and will include mostly backroads in parts of Jefferson, St. Clair and Blount counties. The ride will be approximately 85 miles in length. We will meet at 10 a.m. at Red Mountain Motorsports, 7500 Crestwood Blvd. in Birmingham and leave by 10:30 a.m. The group should arrive at the first covered bridge, Horton Mill Bridge near Oneonta, about two hours later, and the second bridge, Easley Bridge, a half hour after that. The overall time for this ride will be around three hours and we will complete the ride at the Swann Covered Bridge near Cleveland around 1 or 1:30 p.m. From there, each rider can make his or her way home by the best route for their particular destination. Participants will have the option to follow Haynes to the Top Hat BBQ in Blount Springs, about 20 miles away, for lunch if they so choose. Please note that in the event of bad weather on February 9, this ride will be postponed until the following Sunday, February 16. Participants should check this web page for any postponements due to weather before the day of the ride. Also, please RSVP if you plan to participate because this helps us with planning for the number of bikes in our group.
