  • From Decatur to Dunlap

I'm going to be visiting family in Decatur before heading to the rally in Dunlap. Could I get some suggestions on roads to take? I have a GS, but prefer paved roads or good condition gravel. I picked the route below based on curvy lines on the map, but I have no real idea about them. I you have some favorite routes in that area I would love to hear about them. See you at the rally.

Mike, if you have Garmin's mapping software, I'll send you a route.

not a bad pick Mike but you might want to include AL 65 going north from US 72 at Paint Rock. This road may be the best one in the state! As bob mentioned, he can offer several suggestions as well!
Ride safe and we'll see you at the rally!

Thanks Vance and Bob. I'll look into AL 65 as you suggested. Bob I sent you my e-mail address. Looking forward to your route ideas. I'm looking forward to the rally. I really enjoyed the one's on the river in Madison. Hope this one turns out just as well.

I took Vance's advice and made a route with AL 65 in it. While doing that I discovered county road 33 had a twisty section around Clemmons Point, and county road 55 had a switch back at Low Gap that looked like fun. The roads looked in good condition on Street View. Of course that could have changed a few times since Google made the shot from satellite.

I can't tell from your map but it looks like you are coming down off the mountain on county road 33. If you will look at your map you can see county road 470 off of 33 and it goes a very short distance to the corner of county road 21. On that corner is the pikeville store which has the history of one of the best 100 places to eat in Alabama for their burgers. Or you can go to google maps and list pikeville store Scottsboro, AL. So if you are near there at lunch time it is worth a stop!! You won't be disappointed.

If the burgers are that good I'll stop even if it's not lunch time.
