  • RTE 2nd Saturday, May 14, Convergent Route

North Alabama riders who would like to join the Cheeseburger In Paradise ride can enjoy a convergent route through Maysville, McMullin’s Cove and Woodville The starting point will be the Mapco on US 72 just east of Moore’s Mill Road in Chase. We will depart at 8:45 and arrive at the Pikeville General Store at approximately 10:00 AM in time to join the rest of the group for the Crow Mountain loop, lunch and as much of their return route as you like.

I’m not sure why Bob calls this the Cheeseburger in Paradise ride. Maybe, he has never tried their Banana Moon Pie Banana Pudding!!!

Good plan Vernon. Thank you for organizing a 2nd Saturday RTE for our north Alabama friends and I am looking forward to seeing you guys Saturday, 14th. Please make sure that the folks riding with us from the Pikeville Store to the Grant Chevron have enough fuel to go at least 185 miles. The Pikeville store has 87 grade non ethanol fuel. If anyone needs a bit more fuel to get there, non ethanol regular fuel will be OK to add to your 93 grade.

The name for our RTE to the Pikeville Store to enjoy a cheeseburger came about back in the ABEES days. Gary Nesmith and I were talking about having a ride for our club members to the Pikeville Store, and he thought of Jimmy Buffet's song: "Cheeseburger In Paradise" and suggested that we name the ride after Buffet's famous hit. A grand idea it was too. Actually Gary can be credited with finding the place. He had previously heard of a good cheeseburger eatery north of Scottsboro on CR 21, so while in the area, he decided to find it. Not believing that old store with gas pumps out front and rows of groceries at the entrance, could possibly be the cheeseburger restaurant, he walked in and must have appeared to be looking for something. The owner said to him "I bet you are looking for a cheeseburger" and history was make.

Don't know about you, but after eating a large "cheeseburger basket", I don't have room for the very excellent Moon Pie bread pudding. I have begged a bite a few times though. Actually, the only person in our club that I know that could do it is Paul Orr. One time, his first time, when we were there he, not knowing the size of the burgers, ordered two of them, fries included. He enjoyed downing both of them. That is when he acquired the nickname: "Cheeseburger Cheeseburger".

      Bob,
I try to follow Garfield’s rule of dieting - “Eat dessert first, otherwise you might get too full”. I’ll get extra spoons!

Our weather woman says it going to be a great day. She must have read about our plan to ride some of the best roads in Alabama and eat one of the best cheeseburgers and the absolute best banana pudding “I ever ate”. See you there

Hi all. The distance from the Pikeville Store to Grant Chevron is only 61 miles not 185. My initial post stated i correctly. 185 is total miles ridden from our starting point at Jacks in Ashville.

It was a great day to ride and a great ride we had to the Pikeville Store & Deli. Thanks Gary for doing a great job leading us.

Here are some photos, and judging by all of the smiles, a good time was had by all 26 (+ -) of us.
