The best road up in north Alabama is Alabama highway 65. From US Highway 72 east of Huntsville 65 starts between Gurley and Paint Rock and goes north to Huntland Tennessee. Ride it both directions and you'll have all the fun you can stand.

Lenn,
Agree with Jim on AL65. If you are riding both ways, as a variation take CR27 which branches off AL65 just north of Princeton and runs back into AL65 north of the 146 cutoff. very scenic, narrow and curvy. The Keel mountain ride is another good ride.
If you take the AL65 run to Huntland don't miss the old (1847) Falls Mill at Belvidere (about 3 miles east of Huntland and just norht of US 64.) There are also some nice roads in Morgan County around Eva.
