  • Don and Barbara's Grand Adventure

After spending 2 nights and a delightful day with Wanda and Gator, we headed west towards Texas. Gator gave us a route that took us through the Bayou Plantations down towards the Gulf and we saw some beautiful ante-bellumes. We also saw a lot of homes that still showed the signs of Hurricanes Rita and Ivan. We spoke with one lady who told us all about the joys of doing business with FEMA.
We got as far as Humble, TX just after the rains and checked into a motel for the night. Tomorrow we head to Fredericksburg.

    Hi Don and Barbara.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like you are off to a great start. .

When you get to Fredericksburg, head on down to Luckenbach and drink a brew for me. Maybe Willie will show up.

I'm glad you guys enjoyed the route we mapped out. Looks like ya'll still made pretty good time getting all the way to Humble last night. When ya'll get to Fredericksburg don't forget to go to Hondo's for a great sandwich and a brew. Be safe and have fun.

          Fredericksburg Tx

Yesterday we rode the first 100mi in some hard rain. Slow going 45-50 MPH. the next 150 no rain but high wind still slow took all day to ride 250 mi. The afternoon ride good dispite the wind, temp and low to mid 40s. The Gerbings gear made the temp no proublem.
Today it is raining 38 looks like maby rain moving out after noon and maby we will get to do some riding around the area. Tomorraw on to Big Bend.

                LBJ Ranch

Finally quit raining for the most part around noon, and we got out of the room. Lunch at McDonald's where we met an older woman who rode with her husband when she was younger, talked for 20 minutes.. neat. Went to the LBJ National Park very interesting. I was suprised when the ranger said that 24% of the work Johnson did while he was president was done from here. We leave in the morning we leave for Big Bend.

Hey Don, be sure to pick up those National Parks STamps, (free) you can get an IBA Master Traveler Award if you get 25 states and at least 50 National Parks, shouldn't be hard for ya'll on this type of trip....two up ticket would be special for sure.

Finished mine in October with 86 parks and 25 plus states...really enjoyed the ride....think I put about 20,000 miles on during the Master Traveler trip...

Enjoy reading ya'll adventures.... keep them coming...

Barney will be on duty while your gone!

Finally better weather cool but no rain. Good ride but Betty (GPS) been smoking dope, took us on 15 mi of road you GS guys would love mud rocks everything. After that 80 miles to gas 50 miles of gas in tank but God put an Angel with a gallon of gas there for me.
Trailer tows good except on Interstate does not like high speed and buffet from trucks. I can live with it don't like interstate anyway.

Has anyone heard from the Grand Adventurers? It's been a couple of days since they have posted here and since we have gotten an e-mail.

Ma'am Gator, we talked with them Sunday and they were headed for Big Bend National Park. They probably don't have wifi and are out of cell coverage. I tried calling but their phones seem to be turned off. We'll just have to wait or go out there and see about them!

It has improved! Enjoy the ride and the sites without stopping to look at a map, find a payphone or post office.

I don't Ron, but when you meet a "biker" today you don't notice his leather nor smell his sweat; you see his Rolex and get a whiff of his hair conditioner. Indeed, where has it gone?
