Welcome to the forum, now before you try anyting else or listen to anyone else put a $20 bill in an envelope to the Outlaw. This is the forum initiation fee. Until I receive this fee, I will lead you on more crazy solutions than you can stand.
Actually, bones I just tried downloading the new files posted for the AAA fives. They download and and I recalculated the routes to my old version of City Streets (when I get enough $20 initiation fees I will update to City Navigator, so please help) Thye downloaded just fine to my Mapsource. I thne checked to see what version of Mapsource I have. Mine version is 6.13.7.
Recommend you boot up Mapsource and go to the help menu and select About and verify what your version number is. If it is not at least 6.13.7, go to Garmin and download the latest version. I am not trying to dispute your knowledge of what version you have, but it has been known that sometimes the latest versions don't download or install when you do download them.
Just check again, If you do have the latest version, I would try loading the AAA route again from this site (see if you can help us spell Shores or is it Shoures in Gulf Shoures to Red Bay.) If this doesn't work, I will wait on the $20 and give you another answer.

Outlaw, I did have to redownload the update.Worked like a champ. i'm still a map guy, new to this gps stuff As for the twenty i sent it with my application to Marty Simpson so i could join the band out outlaws but hey i'll do what i got to do. Gulf Shores? Oh you mean the Gulf,. we dropped the Shores long ago. Thanks for the help.

Sounds like good advise Outlaw. I am having no problem with the downloads and wager that Bones' software needs updating.

Bones58, if updating your software isn't the problem, ask the customer service person at Garmin how to fix it. They have always been very helpful to me and will stay with you until your problem is solved. They won't charge you $20.00 either

Gary, "Shoures" evidently has been there for over two years and I never noticed it. I'll ask Steve to make the correction.

Mr Outlaw, You were spot on about having to reload the update. your $20 went to Marty Simpson along with my app...my mistake. I'm new to the GPS world (i like maps) but maybe with the help of this fine group and a few 20's

Outlaw, i was having problems posting replies. You were spot on with reload the garmin update... problem solved. i'm new to the GPS(i like maps) world.i sent the 20 to mr simpson along with my app so i could join this group,my mistake. As far as shoures or shores, down here it just the Gulf, we dropped shores long ago, we wrer having problems with the spelling also.

Just to keep you outta hot water, there ain't no Mr. Simpson, Marty is of the fairer sex and our club treasurer. She is a classy lady, I know this cuz she just sent me an email complimenting on my Nazi helmet story in the newsletter.
That $20 you sent Marty is for club membership and has absolutely no relationship to the $20 I am trying to swindel from you.
Glad you joined the club and hope to see you round some of the campfires. Be sure not to miss the Bonner's catfish cookout at LittleRiver just north of Atmore for our October meeting.

Now i have to mount and power and get accustom to it on the bike.Can some one tell me if the Mad Maps regional map downloads will work. Some how i was voted tour leader for a trip we are planning in May. We plan on scoping out the Ralley site so we will have a leg up when we get there.

I can't answer your question about Mad Maps, but I can assure you that the MapSource mapping software you should have received with your 2820 is excellent and user friendly for planing trips, then downloading them to your unit.

If you are new to navigating with a GPS, know that it will send you to places like logging roads, drainage ditches and all manner of other surprises. Also, expect to make u-turns often. It gets better the more practice you have, so before taking on the challenge of leading a group ride, make lots of practice trips to places you are unfamiliar with. You can go to our website and download routes in Alabama that are the favorite roads and rides of fellow club members. All of them are available on the GPS Route Planning page, Route planing template with waypoints and routes.

Additionally, dealing with a GPS unit while riding your bike is much more dangerous than using a cell phone while driving in a cage, so be very careful not to pay more attention to the GPS than what is going on around you.

All that said, I won't leave home without "Naggy", the name of my Zumo 550.

Logging roads and drainage ditchs...sounds like fun for the GS no matter how you find um. Ihave been playing around with it in the truck in my daily work
from place to place to get use to it. Planned routes are next on my list of how to.I'm one that likes to know where i am going before i leave then explore the area by the set of my pants when i get there. Our group is just three of us, one just pickup his new (06) GS,nicely out fitted , less than 5m miles, funny, he turned in to a kid over night, dream bikes do that to you i guess. I looked at mounting(placement) on the bike the other day and that is going to take some work.But, i do have a Legend HCx that i use, i keep in the tank bag, great handheld unit. Getting a little lost is part of the fun anyway.

Not familiar with Mad Maps (wanted to buy it but you never sent the $20).
There are several shareware GPU utilities that convert from different formats. One of those may work. The most commoon method seems to be to convert what ever you have such as Mad Maps into a GPX file, then open the GPX file in Mapsource. I use a utility called GPSU.
Like Bob said, probably best to practice laying out you route in Mapsource then download to your 2820. Mapsource is fairly easy to use after you practice a couple of times. It really is just a point and click operation and you can find about any location you wnat if you put the scale down to less than a mile.

www.madmaps.com They have partnered with garmin with a series of regional maps all over the U.S.. They offer them to download to your unit
but only list the nuvi or zumo units. i have one of there paper maps and it's great, it has about 20-25 routes( TN,GA,SC,NC and Kentucky) turn by turn,poi's...much like the Gps routes on the web site, just listed like a route chart. check it out. The 20 is in the mail.
