Ron Shae, riding his GSPD, this morning at 11:am on the way to Firetower Road hit a b i g deer. Ron was going about 40-50 mph when the deer came out of the woods like a bullet running in front of him before he had time to react. Upon impact, the bike went verticle and spun around 180 degrees pitching him off and landing on his leg with the cylinder head clamping his knee to the pavement. Tom and I quickly lifted the bike off Ron and rolled it over out of the road. Ron was unconscious for a minute of so, but was able to communicate with us shortly after he regained consciousness. The medics were there within 10 minutes after calling 911, amazing! They had Ron stabilized and placed in the ambulance quickly. Terry and Joan Ware arrived at the scene with their trailer shortly after being called and Ron's bike is now safely stored at T4.
After 2 plus hours in surgery at USB, he was moved to ICU. His spleen was removed and he took three units of blood. His bladder may be damaged also. After his initial surgery, docs determined that his knee required surgery and he is there now (6pm 12/29). Carolyn and some of his children are there.
Please say your prayers for Ron and Carolyn.
