Hello everyone! The Moundville meeting is in just two weeks. Bruce and I have been talking with both Gary and Bob, about our ideas for a ride on Saturday.
Both Gary and Bob mentioned the Aliceville Museum, featuring the German POW camp that was there in the early 40s. The museum is a POI in the ABEES guide. Bruce and I thought that would be an excellent destination. We can ride through Greensboro and see some interesting Antebellum homes still standing, and also ride by the Hale County Courthouse. We also can ride back through Carrollton and see the Pickens County Courthouse, and see if anyone can make out the legendary, face in the window.
There are two options for lunch during the ride. 1 - There is a small local (hole in wall) restaurant next to the Aliceville museum, that is a possiblity for lunch after the POW tour. 2 - Ride back to Northport, and have lunch by the river, at either Steamers, or Dreamland. It is only about 45 minutes ride from Carrollton to Northport.
I mentioned last month at the morning meeting the possibility of the Westervelt Warner Museum of American Art, or the Paul Bryant Museum. I believe the Art Museum would be the best choice and we can get there without having to traverse through to many traffic lights. The Paul Bryant Museum would take us through several traffic lights and student traffic.
I would still like offer a ride to the Westervelt Warner Museum, if there is enough interest. They have a wonderful collection of some of the best American Artist. You will not be disappointed. This ride could start a little later, in the morning, around 10:00 AM.
Give me your feedback. What are you interested in? Aliceville POW Museum, or the Art Museum?
If we do the Art museum, we would have lunch in Northport at Steamers or Dreamland.
