To all, to be more clear and I hope fair, I will have about 5 beds inside and two sofas uncommitted. I think first come first served will be the most fair way to allocate. I will be there as early as Thursday but if you come that early some prep work may be involved.

    This is gonna be fun!

Can't find specific location on the web. Can you post an address that might make it easier to plan accommodations. If I can get away it might be a late arrival Friday evening.

I will go ahead and post directions to and location of farm and then re-post near time for the event:

            Location: N 32°59'3" W 88°5'10"

Directions: From I59, take exit 40 (Eutaw/Aliceville exit) west on hwy 14 for 13.5 miles. Be careful, at the community of Clinton, 14 takes an abrupt right. It is well marked. 13 miles from the interstate or 5 miles from this turn at Clinton, turn left on CR 120. The barriers indicate a bridge out beyond my driveway. Go 1.8 miles to an iron gate and turn right. Be careful not to turn at a red gate at 1.6 miles. The house is .75 miles from asphalt but road is ok for street bikes.

The first 1/4 mile of the road does not belong to me and is protected by a gate. I feel obligated to keep this gate locked, especially at night, so if you are arriving late, call me at 205 302 4114.

Alternate routes to avoid interstate can be found by taking US 82 west from Tuscaloosa and then through Coker and Buhl or Gordo and Carrolton.
From west, go to Aliceville and take 14 east to CR 120.
Don't try to route through West Greene on CR 120 because the bridge is out and it is about 25 miles around.

            thanks,
            David

To all: a quick reminder about the trip to the cannons in Starkville. I spoke with Paul this week and all is still as originally planned. Please consider overnighting at my farm on Friday, June 19. I will fix barbeque dinner. We will leave around 7 Saturday morning with a planned stop at a local bakery Paul knows and then proceed on to the museum.

I have lots of room for camping with access to inside bathrooms. I have some bedspace inside and even more floor space if you bring pads/sleeping bags.

I will post directions closer to time but it is 45 minutes SW of Tuscaloosa. Anytime on Friday would be fine.

              David

It now looks like we will contend with some rain if the tropical system passes to our north as predicted, but the cannons are inside so the museum tour will not be affected. I still hope many will join me at my family farm prior to the trip for barbeque. We will work out sleeping arrangements as weather dictates. I think there will be room for all to be undercover if not inside. I would appreciate those of you who use the beds and sofas to bring sleeping bags etc and towels if you use the showers. Please arrive early on Friday if you want to avoid afternoon thundershowers. I will have the gate open after 10 or so in the morning.

We will have barbeque for dinner on Friday night and Gail has offered to bring desserts so please give us an idea of how many will attend.

thanks and we look forward to sharing the Greene County solitude with you,

                David

Special thanks to Paul and Gail Thorne for organizing this trip and for dessert.
Thanks to Tommy Crawford and Jerryl Hyche for helping me get the place presentable.

The aviation weather forecast shows that low pressure system well out of the way by Friday evening and clear weather for Saturday. Y'all have fun.

A big THANK YOU to David Hogg, Tommy Crawford and Jerryl Hyche for all the hard work they did to make this one of the most enjoyable events Paul & I have been to in a while. This is what our Alabama Club should be all about. These guys spent weeks working to make all of us that attended feel comfortable and right at home at David's farm. His barn is nicer than most houses, and the main house is awesome. Absolutely beautiful with some of the best scenery in Alabama, including different types of wildlife all to be seen right from the front porch. If you missed this event, you definitely missed out. These guys were so gracious to do all this for us ( I think 10 in all). We had the most relaxing Friday evening you can imagine, with one of the best meals you have ever seen. David prepared BBQ & baked beans, Tommy grilled corn on the cob, and Jerryl made the cole slaw. David provided more beverages than you can imagine, and no one went to sleep hungry. This morning, Paul led us over to the Mennonite Bakery in Brooksville for a breakfast of apple fritters & coffee and then to the Starkville Civil War Arsenal for a GREAT presentation from Duffy Neubauer the Curator. We then stopped for lunch back in Columbus at the United Deli before everyone parted ways. Thanks again guys for a wonderful time. Gail & Paul Thorne
