More improvements - today I visited the orthopedic doc in Huntsville. They removed the cast/splint from my right hand and put on smaller brace. I also got the OK to use my feet to manuver the wheelchair which gives me mobility. I have another appointment in a month to determine if I can start to put a load on my pelvis/legs.

Just a day at a time Erik, when I had my total knee replacement I was given a time table of four months due to not having a knee cap in the deal, It was this time of year and very hot...so I enjoyed the comfort...but wanted more than ever to get back to going and riding.
Your prior health and age are certainly on your side....and your injuries are certainly more serious than my knee was...but you will be back sooner than you think now....
Your updates sound great and only wish for you a speedy recovery. Need anything ? just shout out.Don G Norwood

Erik, I hope you had a good weekend. Hope you had a few visitors to lift the spirits and a little rest from the therapy. (Guessing that weekend therapy is once a day instead of twice a day.)
Let us know if there is anything we can do for you --- long distance unfortunately.

Hi All,
I have had a steady flow of visitors which has been nice. Each day I seem to be improving. Physical therapy wears me out a bit. I appreciate all of the offers for help and may cash a few in when I get to go back home. I sure would like to be heading up to the National this week. To everyone who is heading that direction, drive safe and have a great time. Post some photos so I can see what I am missing.Erik Bahl

Quick Recovery
Eric, I have been following your progress since the accident. I am so sorry that had to happen to you and your family. I know you are so tired of being in the hospital and want to be out. When you do get out, there are some resources that are available to you that you may or may not know of. I work for the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services and there is a section of our Department that deals with the reutilization of all sorts of adaptive equipment from wheel chairs, canes, lifts, etc. that are all free to use as long as you may need them. I will put the link up with the most current inventory which may be outdated so if there is something you need that is not on the list just call and see if they have it. There are centers in Huntsville, Birmingham, Dothan, Montgomery, and Mobile. Again, there is no charge for these items....if there is a price on the inventory, it only reflects the cost of the item new. To you it will be free to use as long as you need it. Just hang in there like a hair in a biscuit and we will see you back on the road. Get well soon. http://www.rehab.state.al.us/Home/Se...0Inventory.pdf

Hi All,
I am coming up on the one month anniversary of this accident. Wow. Good progress this week. I am doing therapy about three hours a day and getting stronger. I hope to have clearance in about three weeks to start load bearing exercises on my legs. I miss my fellow club members in spending time at the national as I was planning on attending. But since it is so hot there maybe it's not so bad I missed it. I have been moved to room 204 which is a private room. My last two roommates were senior citizens who quickly tired of my non-stop talking.Erik Bahl
