  • Don Little Accident

Don Little had an accident this afternoon on the way home from Shiloh. He had dropped Barbara off at her work place to pick up her car and proceeded on home in Clayton. As he turned onto the secondary road that leads to his house he hit some gravel and high sided. Apparently he has a spiral fracture in his left lower leg that will require surgery. Barbara drove him to a local hospital but he was then transported by ambulance to Dothan where he will undergo the surgery and treatment.

Please keep Don and Barbara in your prayers as they face this crisis. I will prvide updates as I receive them.

Sorry to hear about the accident. Our bones don't heal as fast as they once did, but Don is strong and will pull through. Hopes and prayers sent your way Don. Does this change the way you feel about the new bike?

Thanks Jamie for the post about Don having an accident on the way back from Shiloh. Those high side get-offs are the worst kind. I am really glad Barbara wasn't on the bike with him, and if she saw him go down, it must have been awful for her to see that.

Our thoughts and prayers are with he and Barbara and I hope this will give him more time while convalescing to plan his retirement trip.

If he needs help getting his bike to Bogart's for repair, please tell him that I will come get it and take it to the shop and hope it will be ready for him to ride when his leg heals.

I just spoke with Don and he is awaiting surgery this afternoon or tomorrow morning. The doctors say that his fibula (shin bone) has a spiral fracture and may need a plate, screws, etc. and his tibia (smaller leg bone) is completely fractured and will require a plate for repair. In the meantime he is resting (un)comfortably with the assistance of a morphine drip. Barbara is at his bedside providing emotional comfort.

Don and Barbara are receiving calls at this time so if you wish you may contact them during the meanwhile at:
              Southeast Alabama Medical Center
              1108 Ross Clark Circle - Rm 277
              Dothan, AL 36301
              Phone 334-899-8111 - Room 277

I will post follow-ups as I receive them.

I just talked with Barbara and she said that they had taken Don into surgery at 3:30. She said that the plan is to put a plate on the tibia and pins in the fibula for the time being. A second surgery will be required in a couple of weeks to remove the pins and install a plate.

Barbara has finally gone home for shower and change of clothes. I am sure that will make her more comfortable as she waits.

Thanks Jamie. I bet Don in the hospital connected to machines is akin to the "bull in in the china shop". I know it would be for me too!

I will call them tomorrow and check up...

Vance, he will be happy to hear from you. Don't be surprised if he is a little groggy from the morphine. By the way, before the surgery he made sure that the doctors knew that was his "shifting" foot and had to be repaired correctly.

I got to talk to don on the phone today before the surgery. At that time he was felling pretty good. He said that the morphine drip had finally kicked in and the pain had subsided somewhat. Just as long as no one made him move. then it started all over.
I'm glad to hear they went on with the surgery today. He sure didn't want them to wait until tomorrow. He said his foot was just flopping there, no connection or something like that. eeewww....

Don has been released from the hospital and is at home. He will have to return in a couple of weeks to have the pins and rods removed and another plate installed. Give him a call or a card; he will be glad to hear from you. His address and telephone number is listed in the blue members book. I won't post that information here for security reasons. (Damn them web crawlers!)

Spoke with Don this morning. Said he was resting okay and that Barbara was a Godsend for him (isn't that true wives for all of us guys?) Said he had to go back to Dothan on 18th for the second surgery. Man do I ever empathize with him!
Going to try and get down to see him next week and take him some motorcycle movies.
He needs all of our prayers to keep up his positive attitude.
