Damn, I really need to start checking in more often, as this is the first I've heard of all this . I am going to call them right now! I really hate to hear this, and i hope all goes well with his healing up. Don is a tough guy, so he'll be ok, I am sure .

Man I guess I have been out of the net for a while. I just saw this and am glad that he is okay. I am only 35 miles down the road and can go check on him anytime. I will try and find my little blue book, but i think it was victim to the WV accident. Send ime his number Vance. I appreciate it.

Steve, if you e-mail me at home I will give you Don's e-mail address. You can get mine off the back of the newsletter. For security's sake it is best not to post e-mail addresses on this site.

                Hello,
I wanted to give everyone an update on Don. We went back to the doctor yesterday and Don was hoping they would admit him and go ahead with the surgery but that was not to be. Instead, we go back for another exam on the 30th and the surgery is scheduled for the next day. We will have another doctor for that procedure, one whose expertise is the ankle and lower leg. He says they are going to try to put a "nail" in just below the knee and drive it down beside the tibia and secure it to the bone . It sounds extremely painful to me and I am already dreading it for him.
I also want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the all of the phone calls, thoughts, prayers and offers of help that we have received since the accident. Your friendship has helped to get us through this ordeal.
We love you all and cherish your friendship.
                Barbara

                  Barbara,

I am just a few miles away in Enterprise and can be with you guys at the hospital if you want/need some company on the 31st. I can pick up some Starbuck's and wait it out with you. Just let me know.

We are all thinking about you guys and praying for a great outcome,

                  Steve

Ma'am Gator, I talked with Barbara at 2:30pm and she said that Don had just got out of surgery. They placed two plates and a lot of screws to realign the broken portions of the tibia. Don was in a lot of pain but had gotten a shot of Demerol. She said the medicine was just kicking in and they were going to put him on a morphine drip to manage the pain. Barbara was uncertain as to whether he would go home tomorrow or later.(I'm guessing later.)

Please keep Don and Barbara in your prayers for the duration of this malady.

Thanks Jamie for keeping us posted on Don's progress.

I'm sure sorry to hear he is in so much pain. He's a tough guy and I'm confident he will be back to his old self soon.

I'm assuming Don is home since he was supposed to go home either yesterday or today. Does anyone have an update? Don't want to bother them at home right now - I'm sure he's feeling really rough at this time and don't need a lot of phone calls. I plan to phone in a couple of days when, hopefully, he'll be feeling better (and then Barbara will too).

Don has had his surgery and is home as of today (Thursday 11/01). Barbara sent me an e-mail today as to his progress which I will post here. I don't think Barbara will mind:

"Just wanted to give everyone an update. We went to the Doctor for a check-up on Tuesday with surgery scheduled for Wednesday. However, when the doctor found out that we live an hours drive from the hospital and that his foot tended to swell during the day, he decided to check him in a day early and keep his foot in a sling overnight to keep the swelling down, making the surgery a little easier.

They took him to surgery about 10:30 yesterday morning and the doctor said everything went great. He put a screw into the inside of his leg to align the 2 pieces of bone and then he made a small incision just above the ankle and inserted a plate beside the bone and secured it to the bone, if I understood it right.

He has a huge dressing on his foot and leg from just below his toes almost to his knee and Don says it is very heavy. They call it a Robert Jones dressing. He will wear that until November 13 when we go back and they will put a cast on his leg.

The doctor told us Tuesday that it will be 8 to 12 weeks before he can even put his foot on the floor so we know how he will spend the remainder of his year. He was in a great deal of pain last night as the Demerol they gave his just didn’t work for more than about an hour and a half. Maybe because he finally got enough in his system along with the Loritab they finally gave him this morning, but he was fine from about 0600 till about noon then he took another Loritab and he is sleeping now.

I plan to go back to work tomorrow if he remains pain free and is able to get around in the house ok."
